Nokian continues its assault on the increasingly popular segment of all-season tires, perfect for many areas of a country like ours with a temperate and not extreme climate between summer and winter.
In fact, the new Nokian Seasonproof and Seasonproof SUV four-season tires were presented, the last two tire ranges designed specifically for driving peace of mind in all weather conditions.
The two tires obviously differ by reference segment: cars in the first case, SUVs, and crossovers in the second. In total, 64 different sizes are available, with diameters ranging from 14 to 19 inches.
Their commercialization will start this autumn, in time for the next change, with eleven selected sizes, while the remaining will arrive in the course of 2021.
Nokian Seasonproof Features
The new Nokian Seasonproof has been conceived first of all to guarantee maximum safety while driving, especially in the event of sudden weather events.
For its development, what the Finnish manufacturer calls “concept Season Sense” was followed, a name in which various characteristics are summarized, starting with the siping and then ending with the rubber’s tread design and compound.
Let’s start with the siping, which has an innovative directional design (i.e., with a sort of “arrow” pointing towards the front of the car, usually typical of winter) and a less dense presence the same.
In particular, the channels have been made with the “Polished Grooves” system, with smooth grooves that allow you to accelerate water and mudflow and increase grip on wet roads. However, even in the snow, these tires are equipped with innovative systems to make them usable even in these conditions.
Thanks to the Snow Claws, literally “Snow Claws” or small teeth obtained on the sipes, the grip in case of slippery surfaces promises to be improved in braking and acceleration.
However, all these would almost seem like winter rubber characteristics, and the Seasonproof are also approved for use this season (in fact, the 3PMSF symbol is also present).
Thanks to the new compound with high silica content, however, the Finnish house also promises excellent grip on the dry and low rolling resistance. According to the tests carried out by Nokian itself, Seasonproof tires promise to have durability in optimal conditions 25% higher than the Weatherproof model.
The last touch is the presence of a sunken code on the tread accompanied by a snowflake that disappears completely when it reaches 4 mm of the sipe’s thickness, a signal that the time to replace the rubber is approaching.
For SUVs comes the aramid shoulder.
The Scandinavian brand, as mentioned, differentiates the Nokian Seasonproof for “normal” cars from those dedicated exclusively to the SUV world. It is not just a question of size, although, on average, the tires for this type of vehicle are larger than those in the hatchback or sedan world.
In fact, the Nokian Seasonproof SUVs can count on the Aramid Sidewalls, i.e., shoulders built using aramid, which allows them to be reinforced, improve their durability and, above all, allow the vehicle to withstand much better any impacts that may occur during a trip, such for example the one with a hole in the road surface.
We close with the European label: according to the data released by the house, the new Nokian Seasonproof have a level C fuel economy, a level B grip, and finally an excellent noise level with just 69 dB and a single wave.
