2020 Suzuki Jimny Interior Features - Dashboad

2020 Suzuki Jimny 4X4 Review: Small Off-Road Vehicle | 1.5 102Hp | It’s been about 50 years since Suzuki produced the progenitor of Suzuki Jimny. First, it was called Samurai and since 1998 Jimny, but the substance has remained the same: it is the smallest off-road on the market. He is capable of big things in off-road, while on the road he must accept the limits.

The 2020 Suzuki Jimny 4X4 looks to the past, and no mistake: no one like the fourth generation attracts the glances of passers-by, even a supercar. The Suzuki – so it is affectionately called by the fans – is more squared than ever, so as to vaguely resemble the Mercedes G-Class, another iconic off-road much larger and above all more expensive than this. The elements “stolen” from the progenitors are many, like the round headlights of the LJ10 (the forefather) and the loopholes of the Samurai.

2020 Suzuki Jimny 4X4 Interior

In short, it’s very vintage. Inside it has some reference to the past, like the instrumentation with the double quadrant, but the cockpit is more modern than one might think. In fact, the Jimny is equipped with automatic climate control and 7-inch touch screen multimedia system, with Bluetooth, support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and GPS navigator.

The interior plastics are all rigid, as expected from a robust off-road, however, the finishes do not disappoint.

The new Jimny has grown in content, but not in size. On the contrary, it is even more compact than before: it stops at 3.6 meters in length including spare wheel (3.48 meters without), 1.65 in width and 1.73 in height; really mini the trunk, not even enough to load a Ryanair approved hand baggage. Breaking down the backrest, however, you have available 830 liters. The plastic bottom is sturdy and easy to clean, but it is also tremendously slippery.

2020 Suzuki Jimny 4X4 Performance

Under the new dress, the 2020 Suzuki Jimny 4X4 remains a hard and pure off-road with cross-member frame and side members. The same as before, but strengthened with two new additional crosspieces (one of which to “X”) to improve torsional rigidity. On the road, he gets better than before, but remains a self-conscious car, with narrow tires and a little precise steering, slow to realign after a bend, demultiplied and with a dead zone in the middle. The approach must be sweet, especially when cornering, where the limits are clear if you force the rhythm a bit.

Nothing dramatic: at low speeds it is a pleasure to use it, even in the middle of traffic, where I look at the passengers of the other cars from top to bottom (it is 12 centimeters higher than a Vitara) and I appreciate the soft friction and perception of space thanks to the square bonnet and the large glazed surface.

The 1.5-liter aspirated engine of 102 bhp and 130 Nm is lively above 3,500 rpm (130 Nm are all present at the 4,000 rpm call), while the bass is a bit lazy. The advantage of not being supercharged is perceived in off-road, where you can perfectly dose the amount of gas desired.

Outside the asphalt, however, it is, unstoppable. It will not have a sophisticated all-wheel-drive system, such as a Mercedes G-Class or a Jeep Wrangler, but it responds with even greater angles of attack and exit (37 ° and 49 °), an angle below 28 °, and a weight of 1,165 kg in running order. To put it in difficulty is more complicated than expected.

The All-Grip Pro 4×4 insertable traction, with a rear base, also includes the reduced gears, but not the self-locking differential. The gearbox is a 5-speed manual and, optional, an automatic with the 4-speed converter. In any case, the reports are short, and on the highway, at 130 km / h about 4,000 rpm, there is a lot of mechanical noise, to which are added the aerodynamic hiss.

Despite its intrinsic defects, I loved Suzuki Jimny, even for road use. Simply calibrate your driving style to the characteristics of the vehicle.

2020 Suzuki Jimny 4X4 Price

The Suzuki Jimny costs Around $25,341 in the rich set-up Top. With the exception of the automatic transmission (1,500 euro), it includes everything as standard: the automatic air conditioning, the multimedia system with 7-inch touchscreen and navigator, the heated seats, the full LED headlights.

Alternative

In its segment, that of city cars, there are no rivals. The Panda 4×4, in fact, is approaching for Suzuki Ignis 4×4 style and off-road capability. The real off-road vehicles on the market are few, bigger and (much) more expensive: the iconic ones like the Jimny are the Mercedes G-Class, the Jeep Wrangler, and the Toyota Land Cruiser.

Those looking for a real off-road in pocket format has no alternative. The 2020 Suzuki Jimny 4X4 could also get by as a city car: its mini size, good visibility, and high seating are winning weapons in the traffic. And parking on an island of traffic could not be simpler.
